LOOKING FOR HANDS-ON WORK, A STRONG TEAM, AND INSPIRING PROJECTS?
Flying Shade designs and builds beautiful bamboo shade structures, stages, entry portals, banner stands, and custom event environments using giant bamboo and colorful canopies. We serve festivals, parades, weddings, markets, and community gatherings throughout Southern California. We are seeking dependable Build Associates to join our bamboo build crew for ongoing seasonal projects.
THE ROLE
This position is for a crew member on our bamboo installation team. You will help construct shade structures, stage decor, entry portals, kiosks, and custom fabric installations. You’ll work closely with a collaborative team in a fast-paced event environment. Attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship matter. An artistic eye is a plus, as many of our builds are focal points of the events we serve.
WHAT THE WORK INVOLVES
- Physically demanding work
- Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs comfortably
- Comfortable working on ladders up to 12 feet
- Ability to follow direction while also thinking creatively when needed
- Maintaining a focused and safety-oriented mindset
- Working outdoors in varying conditions
- Using provided tools and equipment
- Wearing work-appropriate clothing including closed-toe shoes
- Most builds and strikes take place between Thursday and Sunday, though schedules vary based on event needs.
WHO YOU ARE
- Reliable and punctual
- Positive team player
- Comfortable with physical labor
- Interested in creative building and design
- Willing to learn bamboo construction techniques
- Takes pride in craftsmanship
- Experience in construction, theater production, event production, carpentry, staging, rigging, sewing, fabrication, or art installation is a plus but not required.
COMPENSATION
Starting at $22/hour (Training level 1)
$25/hour (Training level 1 complete)
$28/hour (Able to lead our team, Drive our truck and trailer, interface with clients, complete projects dependably)
Drive time paid at minimum wage when applicable.
We can often transport team members to and from our Goleta starting location.
