About Old Oak Pastures & Our Mission
At Old Oak Pastures, we practice regenerative agriculture—using rotational grazing to restore soil health, increase biodiversity, and raise thriving animals.
A central part of our ecosystem is building heavy-duty, mobile chicken coops. These structures are constantly moved to fresh pasture, allowing our hens to live naturally and produce high-quality pastured eggs while their impact naturally fertilizes and regenerates the land. Because these coops are mobile and exposed to the elements, they need to be built tough—which is why we need high-quality construction expertise.
Job Description & Future Growth
We are looking for a skilled Construction Assistant / Carpenter to lead the building, siding, and roofing of our new mobile coop fleet. This is a hands-on project lasting 3 to 4 weeks.
Long-Term Opportunity: While this starts as a short-term project, Old Oak Pastures is expanding. For a reliable craftsman who takes pride in their work and fits in well with our culture, there is a strong potential to transition into a permanent role as our ranch infrastructure and team continue to grow.
Key Responsibilities
Framing & Assembly: Build and reinforce the structural wood/metal framing for mobile agricultural coops.
Roofing Installation: Install weather-tight roofing (corrugated metal, panels, or flashing) to protect the flock from the elements.
Tool & Material Management: Independently operate power tools (miter saws, circular saws, framing nailers, drills) and manage lumber/hardware inventory on site.
What We’re Looking For
Proven Construction Experience: Direct experience with rough carpentry, residential/commercial framing, siding installation, or roofing is required.
Detail-Oriented: Ability to read simple design plans, take precise measurements, and build structures that can handle being frequently towed across pastures.
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50+ lbs, climb ladders, kneel, and work outdoors comfortably in Buellton weather.
Transportation: Must have a reliable vehicle to reach our ranch property.
