Before refrigerators the common household had an "icebox" in the kitchen or pantry. A weekly delivery of block ice would keep foods fresh and cool. This ice was delivered by horse-cart or delivery truck by the "Iceman" who employed these tongs with the tools of the trade. Still functional, these are widely desired for a rustic exhibition piece and a bit of nostalgia.
