Do you need high-level secretarial help? Do you want your academic work polished to a high standard? Do you want an editor to look over your grant application, or clean up your CV? I can help!
I am a former academic medical secretary with a B.A. from an Ivy League university. I have training in proofreading and copyediting, and 20 years of experience on many kinds of documents, including academic journal articles, grants, CVs, reviews, letters of recommendation, and book chapters. I can also work on slide shows, posters, and abstracts. I know medical terminology. I am comfortable working in medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences.
I offer the following services: proofreading, copyediting, and assistance with grant preparation. I do NOT offer writing services.
My fee is $35/hour for proofreading and $40/hour for light copyediting, charged in 5-minute blocks. These are standard rates for professional work. I am a fast worker, and I charge only for the time I work.
Proofreading: Review of a finished document. I correct errors in punctuation, spelling, and grammar. I format the references (I can also check them if you want). I review the design of the document. If I see possible errors of fact, I write a comment. You decide what changes you want to make.
Copy editing: All proofreading tasks. In addition, I suggest ways to say things more clearly. I comment about things that are not clear. I ask questions about things I don't understand. I make your writing clear and easy to read in standard American English.
I will give you a free estimate if you send me a two-page sample of your text. No obligation.
We work together. You tell me what you want and I will try to give it to you on time, accurately, for a reasonable price.
My schedule is flexible and I can usually handle rush jobs.
