For sale is a 1981 Alhambra "Luthier" model classical guitar hand made in Spain by their head luthier and co founder Jaime Julia. This is their top of the line model or in other words their 1a guitar. This guitar carries a price tag of approximately 8k new.
The top/soundboard wood is solid spruce. The back and sides are solid CSAR(Central South America Rosewood), more specifically Brazilian Rosewood. The whole guitar is finished with Shellac/french polish. The neck is cedar with an internal ebony wood strip visible from under the nut when removed and from inside of guitar but not visible from the back of the neck. The fingerboard is ebony wood. The scale length is 657mm. The neck width at the nut is 53mm. The nut and saddle are bone and are in excellent condition. The nut string spacing is 42mm. The upper bout measurement is 4 1/8 in. The lower bout measurement is 3 15/16 in. The string height at the 12th fret for the low E string is the standard 4mm approx. The string height at the 12th fret for the high E is the standard 3mm approx. The tuners are gold/brass lyra gotoh in good working condition(side note, one of the six decorative screws that hold the tuner knobs on has been lost. The other five will be provided, but in truth none of them are needed, because the knobs fit very tight and they do not fall off). The neck is very straight, the frets are in good condition, and there is no lifting of the bridge.
The guitar plays and sounds very nice. The bracing pattern is asymmetrical with six traditional fan braces with a diagonal treble bar/brace to brighten the trebles. It is similar to Jose Ramirez style bracing, but abbreviated. It is the most common traditional bracing pattern for classical guitars currently made in Spain.
The guitar has had one structural repair done to it, and one modification. There was a split in the soundboard next to the treble side of the fingerboard about 1 mm from the fingerboard. This is a very common place for a split to occur, because the high E string has the most tension of all the strings in order to sound loud enough/compete with the metallic sound/volume provided by the basses. The result is an off balance of tension, resulting in a split when conditions aren't ideal. I have seen it on many classical guitars. It is not a deal breaker. This crack has been cleated in two areas. The one modification is that I applied the same cleating structure to the same area on the opposite side/the bass side of the top to strengthen it. I did so because there was a finish crack(no crack in the wood) on the soundboard along the bass side of the fingerboard approx one mm from the fingerboard, and I wanted to strengthen the area to prevent a split from from occurring in the future. I essentially added a symmetrical cleating/bracing system to the top. Cleats are 2mm thick pine tapering to 1mm on edges, and the grain is running perpendicular to the grain of the top. They were glued with hyde glue so they are reversible with applied heat if desired. The cleating system does not affect the sound in any way. I have provided a picture of the repair in my photos. In all, four cleats were added.
Aside from this, there are a few minor finish imperfections in a few areas, mainly where there is a crevice section(the top cut shape of the headstock, and the crevice sections where the neck meets the sides of the body. These have been touched up/covered (not blended or polished) with Terlans brand high quality shellac. Please inquire for photos of imperfections.
Aside from the few minor imperfections, the finish is in excellent condition. There are really no dings/scratches/or play wear on the guitar to speak of.
Included is a $350 dollar TKL hardcase in excellent condition.
I travel down to Camarillo once a month on a sunday. I can meet a buyer down there on that day if that is more convenient for them.
