I am a graduate from UC Berkeley (3.955 GPA) and the University of Chicago (3.756 GPA) with seven years tutoring experience, including for a national SAT/ACT tutoring company and as a classroom teacher during my Peace Corps service. My family and I recently moved back to California from Chicago, where I finished an MA at UChicago.

I have been told I am fun and engaging, but what differentiates me from many of my peers is my ability to adapt my instruction to the levels and needs of my students. If you are trying to raise your SAT score from a 1000 to a 1300, I can teach you a variety of tricks and "cheats" to improve quickly and painlessly. If you are scoring in the 1400s and want to raise your score past 1550, we can work on more advanced material, including Latin roots for vocabulary, the differences in placement rules for present and past participles (and other tricky material) in the writing section, how to identify second-best answers in the reading section, and the types of tricky algebra, trig, probability, and statistics problems you'll find in the math sections. I teach the following subjects:
SAT/ACT: All sections (including the essay). I can also provide practice tests in order to help you determine which test best fits your "style."
English: All levels including AP Literature and Language
History: All levels including AP World, US, and European History
AP Human Geography
Math: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry/Pre-Calc
All subjects, including Latin
*Whereas most tutors will revise college essays for punctuation and organization, I will discuss with you honestly (but politely) whether your essays are good enough for the level of colleges to which you are applying. If they are not, I will work with you to identify interesting topics or creative, engaging angles from which to approach your chosen topic.
I charge $50 for one hour and $80 for two hours. Please drop me an email explaining what you need, and we can setup a call or find a time and place to meet up. Oftentimes, I can travel to you! If you are interested in test prep, I can also forward you an ACT or SAT diagnostic test (or both) to take before our first meeting so we can hit the ground running. I am happy to provide my resume upon request.
Hope to hear from you soon!
