About Benitoite
A rare blue barium titanium cyclosilicate mineral, found in hydrothermally altered serpentinite
Fluoresces under short wave ultraviolet light, appearing bright blue to bluish white (under a black light); if it does not fluoresce this bright blue color, then it is not benitoite.
State gem of California
Disperses and refracts more light than a diamond
Very rare; Gem Quality Benitoite is only found in one mine in San Benito County, CA
Mineral Class: Barium Titanium Silicate
Refractive Index: 1.76 – 1.80
Specific Gravity: 3.60 – 3.68

Due to the pleochroic nature of Benitoite, the stone can appear lighter or darker depending on the light and viewing angle.
Can give off flashes of orange, red and green; properties of dispersion and pleochroism.
Symbolism: Energy, Joy, Happiness --energizing, spark curiosity, enhance intuition
Benito: The word benito is from Latin and means “blessed”
