Volunteer project: Sokawera is a small village, part of Cilongok
subdistrict in Banyumas Regency, Central Java Province. The village has
a Community center called Argowilis, which is run by local villagers,
active in the field of education, environment, agriculture, forestry and
culture. The center also provides free education for local students from
elementary to high school level and also conducts various trainings on
non-formal education matters like making handicraft, training in
agriculture, cooking, playing traditional musical instruments, etc.
The volunteers in this project will teach English, mainly to local students in the center, and may also teach another foreign language. Besides, volunteers will also have opportunity to take part in the daily activities of the local people.
The locals will help the volunteers discover the village area – forest, Cipendok waterfall, ... Together they will take part in sports and cultural activities, and will get to know the local traditional dances and music.
Location: Argowilis Center is located
in Sokawera village as part of Banyumas Regency. It is located 250 km
south-west of Semarang and about 180 km west of Yogyakarta.
