Ready to fall in love? You will, once you meet Mandy and Mindy, two 12 week old Ridgeback mix puppies living in foster care in the Santa Barbara area!

Because these girls came into the shelter as strays, we don't know their breeding for sure -- but they look very much like Rhodesian Ridgebacks, except for slightly rounder muzzles than most adult Ridgebacks would have. But they have glossy red coats and beautiful black muzzles and points (along with a little bit of white here and there). They're going to be big girls, too, although Mindy is smaller than Mandy, who's already 15 lbs! They're leggy and gorgeous, and so friendly that it was hard for me to get them to be quiet long enough to get any decent photos!

Both girls are spayed and have had first vaccinations and deworming. The adoption fee is $90, a steal when you consider what it would cost you to get all those vet services on your own!

If you are interested in adopting, email me and I'll send you the shelter's adoption application. They have you fill it out first just to make sure you are qualified to adopt; it is not a commitment to adopt! Also, if you rent, the shelter will verify landlord approval.

I took in a Shar Pei about a year ago to foster. I have not found her a home yet because I just have not put too much effort out, but have lost my home in the Jesusita Fire and am urgently trying to find her something again. She is blonde, sweet, quiet, doesn't need much attention at all, she doesn't even bark, she is mostly deaf and mostly blind but all of it is genetic. She gets around well, has a cute and sweet personality. She is healthy otherwise, She would be perfect for an apartment dweller as she is quiet and doesn't need to go outside too much. I can't say enough good about her. She is basically the perfect dog for someone who just really wants the company of an animal without the hassle. No health problems to contend with. Healthy eater, she's really perfect but I need to find her someplace else... Thank you

I have a beautiful Red-bellied parrot that needs to find a loving person to spend time with her. I have become too busy and am moving out of state soon and need to find a good home for her to go to. Tamora is a sweet girl, she does need attention every day, but sitting on your shoulder or on a chair or perch near you is plenty. When she was young she didnt get handled much, so is sometimes shy to new people, but she has comes leaps and bounds in her four years. She mostly loves sitting on shoulders, and she LOVES getting treats of any kind!! She is about the size of a conure, and she knows how to 'step up', can say 'pretty bird!' amongst other delightful whistles and chirps, but for a bird she is relatively quiet.

I have a handful of baby dwarf hamsters available for adoption. These are Roborovski's dwarf hamsters also known as desert hamsters (they come from the arid regions of Mongolia and Manchuria). They are the smallest species of hamster and also one of the least commonly kept as pets. I have two colors available, normal beige-gray with white tummies, feet and eyebrows, and also white-faced where the white tummy markings come all the way up the sides and over the whole face. They're all really cute and friendly little animals. A small adoption fee will apply to ensure that they find good homes but the fee is negotiable. If you are in love with Australian Cattle Dogs/Queensland Heelers, then you will go wild over Oz, a lovely neutered male blue heeler from the Lompoc shelter living in foster care in the Santa Barbara area.

Oz is just, well, perfect. He's housebroken, politely deferential to dogs, cats, and people, quiet, and easy to have around. He just smiles with joy to be out of the shelter and in a home -- a smile he will surely take to his new family. He was perfect off leash at the beach, and has been a model of good conduct around the house. What fools his owners were, not to go get him when he came in to the shelter as stray!

Oz is probably 7 or 8 years old, and like most Cattle Dogs, he's on the stocky side -- i.e., he's kind of fat! He does have a tail, and in every way he looks like a blue heeler. Inside that body, too, is an old soul and a loving heart, waiting for a family who appreciates what he has to offer.

The shelter's adoption fee is $90, and includes his vaccinations, etc. If you are interested, email me and I will send you the shelter's adoption application -- they have interested parties fill one out first, to confirm that you are qualified to adopt, before having you meet the dog. Please please have them spayed or neutered before giving them away. If you join the Humane Society, it won't cost very much and then pass that fee onto the new owner. That is the responsible thing to do.
If you can't afford the $25. fee to join, or the spay/neuter shots charges, then post that, and people will help you. Don't let those kitties out of the house until they are fixed......

This cage is way too small for me! Even though the staff and volunteers take great care of me, I'm really ready to blow this joint and find a real home! I really don't know why I'm still here, because I'm such a cute, sweet girl! (At least, that's what the volunteers tells me when they're giving me belly rubs.) I'm about 1.5 years old and I'm a pitbull mix, which means I love, love love, humans!! I've never met a human I didn't like. I like dogs too though, and even cats! I pretty much get along with everyone because I'm such a happy girl. But most of all, I LOVE to chase tennis balls. Meet Ringo!!! He's a one-year-old pitbull boy waiting for a home at the SB County Shelter. He has lived there almost his entire his young life. There are so many dogs there, and so many sweet pitbulls to boot, that poor Ringo is often overlooked. But trust me when I say, this boy is WONDERFUL and will make someone so happy! Ringo is a wonderful ambassador for his breed - a sweet, silly, goofball who just wants to play and cuddle. He loves all people and gets along great with other dogs. Ringo is such a handsome boy - look at that sweet pittie smile! Wouldn't you love to see that smile aimed at you every day? Ringo is full of love and will try to crawl right in your lap to give you kisses. He is big, strong, and active (althought very gentle) so he needs a guardian who understands his breed and who will give him lots of training, guidance, exercise and most of all, unconditional love. Ringo just celebrated his first birthday at the shelter and I hope his next one will be spent with a loving family. We are looking for a playmate for our 3 year old spayed female Italian Greyhound. Her previous playmate moved and was a 5 year old male Yorkie and she is missing her little buddy.

Our dog loves to run, puppy play and socialize. She LOVES other dogs and goes once a week to a doggy daycare to play. She loves Elings Park and running off leash at the beach.

The ideal candidate would be a small dog around 10 to 15 lbs who is current with all shots and vaccines and is fixed. While our dog likes to play semi-rough at times, her breed is very delicate (long thin legs) so her playmate can't be too agressive.

We are just looking for maybe an occasional playdate. Ideally we could switch off taking each others dogs for the day once a week and if the relationship works out well, we could even exchange dog sitting with each other when needed.

She had 5 beautiful kittens which are now 8 weeks old: 1 gray tabby med length hair; 1 sleek black cat. These look life a Siamese tabby cross.
Personalities are SUPER! Friendly, unafraid, playful and very well taken are of -- I LOVE cats!

We at DAWG( the non-profit no-kill dog shelter in Goleta) find ourselves in a delicate situation. Due to circumstances out of our control, one of our dogs placed in a home earlier this year is at risk for euthanasia. Jafra is a 4 year old, Weimaraner/Pit mix. Thankfully, DAWG was able to place her in a beautiful sanctuary in Southern California, where she will be able to live out the remainder of her life.
At DAWG we are proud of our no-kill mission and devotion to promoting the welfare and adoption of lost and abandoned dogs in Santa Barbara County. We upheld our commitment to Jafra that as a DAWG-dog where there is hope, we pursue hope.

Meet Gracie! This sweet senior is living at the Santa Barbara County Shelter. She is approximately 10 years old and needs someone to love her in her old age. Gracie appears to have arthritis in her hips and walks slowly. She still seems to enjoy short walks but would be happiest curled up on a doggie bed where she can rest and get love and attention from her family. She spends most of her time at the shelter curled up on a pile of blankets. I know she is just aching to find a more peaceful, gentle home in which to lay her head and retire with dignity. Hi, we are Talley and Dega, two little flat coated retriever mixes that Westside German Shepherd Rescue has taken in. We were born under a freeway and somewhow ended up in a storm drain. Everyone says it is amazing we survived, but we are smart girls and did. We could really use a foster home!! Each of us needs to go to a seperate foster as we need to have a lot of attention to help us trust humans. We were feral when we came to Westside, but are now house dogs...but don't try to pet us or we run. Thats what we need help on. We want to be pet, to be loved, to be normal dogs, but just arent there yet.

Yes , we know times are hard and rainy season is on its way....
But Rocky really wands to love a family before the Thanksgiving !
( so he doesn't miss out on turkey)
Rocky has been to a lot for his small size - he still has some gun pellets in his
muscles and some scars in his face! But he does not ask for much -
a warm place in the house to sleep , two good little meals a day and a long walk
... and most of all : Someone to love!!

What's wrong with him? Why hasn't he been adopted? Why haven't your postings been a success? Those are just a few of the questions I've received about Champ.
So I want to be clear. Champ has done NOTHING wrong. He has been let down by people. He has not let people down.

Champ is a 73 pound, year old mix breed, handsome, white dog, with freckles. He loves to play and romp with dogs. He requires some activity, walks etc...,
of course, but he is also very content to lay in the yard in the sun or in the office by my feet.

He has excellent house manners. Potties outside. Even on command! He does not dig or chew. He likes to play fetch and tug of war.

If I did not already have 3 dogs of my own and one that I am fostering for DAWG, (which will soon be up for adoption) I would keep him. In a heartbeat.

Champ is smart and eager for a forever home. He will not disappoint.

Yesterday, I went to DAWG to take Champ out for a beach walk, a volunteer said, she thought Champ may be getting too attached to me and it is getting harder for him each time I leave him.
And perhaps, I shouldn't keep coming to take him out. Ugh, that just breaks my heart. Leave him? That's the last thing I want to do.
What will be best for him? To be at the shelter all day everyday so he doesn't attach to me, or to give him the shelter breaks and risk bruising his heart?

Please consider adopting this fine young dog. Please respond to this email if you would like to meet Champ.
