Fundraiser - Music Preservation Project (Santa Barbara)

The Music Preservation Project is seeking professional fundraisers with a particular love for music and good connections in the local community and beyond. We are seeking creative individuals who can work with us and help define, plan, and then execute fund raising initiatives. This also includes grant-writing . This is a commission based opportunity with room for advancement.

The Music Preservation Project is a non-profit organization formed to assist aging music collections and help preserve endangered music archives. Great music collections go beyond simple recordings. These endangered collections can include unreleased tracks, historical videos, posters, photographs, flyers, instruments, and other assorted memorabilia. As life-long collectors grow old, their collections are left in peril. In many cases these are one-of-a-kind, irreplaceable items that must be preserved as part of our cultural history. The Music Preservation Project seeks to help preserve these collections by digitizing and licensing the contents, and then putting them online into a non-profit iTunes model. The University of Southern California is our partner in this ambitious quest.
We are in the process of launching an ambitious nonprofit project called Good Ventures. In a nutshell, the mission of Good Ventures is to locate, foster, support, and pair socially minded Web entrepreneurs looking to start a nonprofit with funding sources that, together, can effect change in the world through the Web. Nothing like this exists and it has the real potential to change the way Web-based nonprofit startups are launched and funded to ensure that the next Kiva.org, Wikipedia, CaringBridge... are given the opportunity to become a sustainable reality instead of being shelved for lack of what Good Ventures' will be providing - support, guidance, and opportunity.
We're looking for a Fund Development Specialist in the Santa Barbara area who understands and believes in the Good Ventures concept and is interested in helping us with this initiative. This will involve helping us raise the funding necessary for our 2010 Inaugural Program, as well as attracting foundations, wealthy individuals, and corporations to our fundraising event and gala at the end of our Program, and working with our selected Web-based nonprofit startups as a mentor and guide through the Program. We view this role as a *critical* component to our team and having an integral impact on the the ultimate success of Good Ventures and our Inaugural Program.
