We are two women looking for a stable and quiet environment away from traffic and party noise but preferably still close enough to life to be able to take a walk during the day. Santa Barbara preferred, but a good neighbourhood in Goleta will do as well. We have lived the last four years in two locations on or close to State Street and have enjoyed the parks and events going on, as well as the convenience of being able to walk and enjoy the daytime downtown life.

Mother is a writer/translator and Chinese instructor who is very private, goes out sometimes, but enjoys personal time in her books and doing research. Daughter is a political science major at UCSB at the end of her academic career - at least as an undergrad. - and planning either for law or graduate school. She also works full time at the San Ysidro Ranch and teaches piano part time.

We are looking for a 2-bedroom or large 1-bedroom house/condo/apartment with a spacious living room. To give an idea of our situation, we are both in academia, so we have about 20 bookcases, a California king-sized bed, as well as a baby grand piano (daughter teaches and plays) so we need the wall and floor space. Place doesn't have to be large, just has to use space efficiently, so a combined dining/living room area with an open kitchen would be just fine.

We also have a pet rabbit - she is litter box trained, doesn't chew on rug or furniture (she's quite happy with her toys and straw mats), indoor only, and literally doesn't/can't make noise - so we'd appreciate a pet- or at least rabbit-friendly place. Usually she prefers just to hide in a corner and go to sleep most of the day (very much like a cat, without the prowling).

We are looking for a place starting the end of September (20th onward) to October 1st at the latest, when the lease for our current place expires. Beautiful place and we love the owners, but the association's CCRs only allow the condo to be leased out for 1 year at a time. A month-to-month or short-term lease also preferred, as daughter is getting married in July of 2009.
