November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, and the Santa Barbara Chapter will be offering nine free presentations at various locations in Santa Barbara, Goleta and Carpinteria to help educate the public about Alzheimer’s.

Tuesday, Nov. 3
4 pm- 6 pm at the Goleta Valley Senior Center
The first segment of the recent Emmy Award Winning HBO documentary, The Alzheimer’s Project, entitled “Caregivers”, will be presented. Jude Costello of Goleta, featured in the film, will be present to share her experience as a caregiver.


Thursday, Nov. 5
5 pm-7 pm at Café Shell on State St
“How to Maintain Your Brain” will be the topic of this free presentation, as part of First Thursday in Santa Barbara.


Friday, Nov. 6
5 pm- 7 pm at Pacific Health Foods in Carpinteria
“How to Maintain Your Brain” will be the topic of this free presentation, as part of First Friday in Carpinteria.


Saturday, Nov. 7
1 pm- 3 pm at St. Raphael’s Church in Goleta
“Know the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s,” presented by the Alzheimer’s Association.


Sunday, Nov. 8
1 pm- 1:30 pm at Barnes & Noble in Santa Barbara
“Why Puzzles Maintain Your Brain” will be the focus at this presentation.


Tuesday, Nov. 10
4 pm- 6 pm at Goleta Valley Senior Center
The second segment of the HBO documentary, The Alzheimer’s Project .“Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am?” will be presented, which includes an interview with Maria Shriver, whose father Sargent Shriver has Alzheimer’s disease. Bill Couturie, who directed the “Caregivers” segment, will be on hand at this event to answer questions.


Wednesday, Nov. 11
7 pm- 8:30 pm at St. Raphael’s Church in Goleta
“Know the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s,” presented by the Alzheimer’s Association.


Tuesday, Nov. 17
4 pm- 6 pm at the Goleta Valley Senior Center
The third and final segment of HBO’s The Alzheimer’s Project, “The Memory Loss Tapes.”


Friday, Nov. 20
3rd Floor Conference Room of the Alzheimer’s Association office (1528 Chapala St in Santa Barbara)
“Family Education – Here Come the Holidays.”
